Carlyn Porter
Fashion Anthropologist · Writer · Sustainable Stylist

Carlyn Porter is a cultural anthropologist, writer, and sustainable stylist exploring the relationships between clothing, identity, craftsmanship, and material culture.
With a master's degree in anthropology and a multidisciplinary background spanning research, public health, and personal styling, she brings an interdisciplinary perspective to the objects we wear and the people who make them.
Her developing editorial project, Baroque Beauty: Clothing, Culture, and the Stories We Wear, examines the social lives of clothing and adornment through fieldwork, interviews, cultural analysis, and personal storytelling.
From Tahitian pearl production to secondhand fashion and emerging sustainable materials, Carlyn is interested in how objects acquire meaning, circulate through economies, and connect individuals across cultures.
She is also the founder of Carlyn & Her Closet, a Colorado-based sustainable styling practice rooted in personal expression, thoughtful consumption, and the enduring value of things.
Fieldwork, kept slowly.
The first entry, No. 01, is Baroque Beauty: An Essay from Tahiti, published October 30, 2026.
